Charity wrap up of 2022
2022 has been a very exciting year for Williams Shipping, full of shows and events that we have attended and causes to which we have contributed. During the year we have dedicated a lot of our time to charity. We have been quite busy this year, it’s the first time in a couple of years that we could run and attend some events due to the pandemic. This year because we tried to seize the moment and do as many kind gestures to the community.
Raffling a day off work with Mind
Our charity team organised an event for Mind, one of our headline charities, where we raffled off a day of annual leave. Over 50 tickets were sold and collectively we raised over £900 for Mind. Every employee who wanted to participate in the raffle had to donate at least £2 and try their luck to win the day off work. It was a fun activity held at our office, which also turned out to be extremely successful.
Saints Foundation
In addition, this year Williams Shipping was delighted to receive our “Corporate Patron” membership from the Saints Foundation. We visited a local school, where it was noticeable the difference that the Saints Foundation made to the health, well-being, and confidence of so many of the pupils there. We were also delighted to present our company to all students and offer them future opportunities in the logistics and maritime divisions. As sponsors of the Saints Foundations, we have attended several charity events throughout the year to bring the heart of Southampton FC to the local community by making Southampton a better place to live for all.
Hares of Hampshire
This year, our second headline charity was the Murray Parish Trust. Their main campaign was called “Hares of Hampshire”. Williams Shipping had the honour to be their logistics partner, involved in the collecting and storing of the plinths and hares. We also were handling and delivering the hares to and from locations in Southampton and Winchester, placing them in central and public locations, where the local citizens had the chance to take a look and admire the different themed hares. We were also invited to the Hares of Hampshire auction at the Great Hall in Winchester, where our sponsored hare “The Wishing Hare” created by Sophie Handy raised the highest bid of the night – funds which were vital for The Murray Parish Trust.
Campaign wrap up
We have also sponsored other events and people throughout the year. One employee son’s football team, the Millbrook U14 Football Club, was sponsored by Williams Shipping. We have also donated resources to the James Davies Hamble Lifeboats cause, where our employee from the Bladerunner team, is also contributing by running the Great South in his lifeboat kit.
Williams Shipping has also donated to Whitaker tankers Big Cycle Challenge by raising money for The Mission to Seafarers and donating to our employee David Nightingale’s London Marathon fundraising for Well Child.
To wrap up, this charitable year was great because we got the chance to contribute to the local community. We can’t wait for next year’s events.
