Charity round up for 2023
It’s been another busy year at Williams Shipping and our staff have got involved in lots of charity work this year.
We’ve supported 2 headline charities in 2023:
The directors chose Saints Foundation, supporting people in need throughout Southampton. The Saints Foundation deliver numerous projects from exercise and social activities, to support with finding work and mental health.
Our staff chose Naomi House & Jack’s Place, which provides expert hospice care to children and young adults with life-limiting conditions.
We have been doing numerous events and fundraising throughout the year to support these charities.
Saints Foundation:
- Redbridge School visit
We were delighted to welcome a group of students from Redbridge School onto our site in May. Adam, our SHEQ Manager hosted the day and showed them round our Millbrook site where they could see our Head Office, as well as our cargo operations and meet some of our drivers. Then it was on to our marine division at the Eastern docks, where they met some of our skippers and deckhands and were able to get on board one of our vessels. Their final stop was Willbox, our container business based in Nursling where they met sales and hire staff as well as operational and conversion staff. Hopefully it gave them an insight into the sorts of job opportunities available in Southampton.
- Saints Works Day
Jonathan and Chris Williams took time out of their schedule to participate in the Saints Works morning hosted at St Mary’s Stadium in October. It was a great chance to meet some young
adults who are being assisted by Saint’s Foundation into finding work and engaging with local businesses. There were some great team-building exercises and healthy competition between Jonathan & Chris as to which of their teams won! The stadium ground was a great place to be able to have a break and walk around whilst engaging with each other.
Our staff and customers have enjoyed attending other events organised by Saints Foundation, their charity dinners and golf days are always good fun and well organised, and most importantly, raise considerable funds for this worthy charity.
Naomi House
- Staff Events
The company organised many events throughout the year to raise money for Naomi House & Jack’s Place. There was a Go-Karting event in February; numerous running events throughout the year including ABP Southampton Marathon, Romsey Relay and New Forest Marathon. We had great fun at a bowling evening in November.
- Staff volunteer day.
Some of our staff spent a day volunteering at Naomi House & Jack’s Place.
Not only was it of great help to Naomi House, it also gave our staff a real insight into the great work that the hospice does, a truly humbling experience.
- Donation of container
We were delighted to be able to donate a container to Naomi House for storage purposes. Space is always limited, especially for their shops and warehouses, so they were really appreciative to have extra storage for their many donations that they receive.
In addition to our headline charities, we have been happy to donate to various other charities throughout the year – to name a few; Millbrook Youth Football Club, where our Cargo Supervisor coaches the team; Portsmouth Sail Training Trust; the Turkey Earthquake Appeal; Sophie’s Appeal and many more.
We look forward to supporting many charities in 2024.
