The marine sector has been slow to change to synthetic lubricants, perhaps due to the higher up-front cost. But using synthetic instead of mineral oil can lead to increases in vessel productivity, as well as better fuel economy, far outweighing the initial oil cost. BLADE RUNNER TWO – Providing specialist transport to the renewables sector
Offshore wind turbine blades present a unique transport challenge. At 80 metres long, the blades manufactured by Vestas on the Isle of Wight cannot be transported by normal vessels, so Williams Shipping operates a purpose-built blade transport barge for the business.
