CARGO HANDLING SERVICES

Williams Shipping is based within a mile of Southampton’s container terminal, one of the busiest in the UK. From this convenient location we provide ongoing daily support for shipping lines, oil terminals, freight forwarders and ships agents.

We can arrange cargo transport to and from customers, loading and unloading from containers and flat racks, container collection, and storage and consolidation services. Whatever your cargo, you can depend on us for expertise and quality of service.

Expert lashing & handling

Transport by sea requires different lashing than road transport. In addition, each shipping line has their own guidelines and standards. We have worked with all the major lines including Maersk, Hapag Lloyd AG, COSCO, ONE and CMA CGM SA and integrate their requirements into our lashing plans to minimise delays on loading.

All our handling staff are fully qualified for cargo shipping and export and experienced with using specialist lashing systems and handling equipment.

Devanning & Container Unloading

Simply put, devanning is a service where we safely remove cargo from a van, truck or container. This cargo can be of any shape, size or weight. Our cargo teams are extensively skilled in this service, often referred to as unstuffing, handballing or unloading.

Our on site 17 tonne forklifts and 45 tone reachstacker are the perfect equipment to handle heavy and specialist items. We also ensure that our staff are trained to the highest levels on all site equipment they use.

We can accommodate cargo of any shape and size up to a weight of 45 tonnes from our specialist yard. Unique, abnormal and awkward cargo is our bread and butter. It can come to us in many different forms, from loose goods to palleted items and we have the capability to store it or transport it, giving you peace of mind that the whole journey is looked after.

Types of cargo

We can handle all types of cargo, from smaller items which need to be consolidated into loads or shipping containers, to large, abnormal items which require an individual approach. We operate a range of on-site heavy lifting equipment to cope with the unique demands of outsized cargo.

In addition, we can provide warehouse, bonded and open storage to hold goods coming in or out.

 

Transport by road

Williams Shipping’s transport division operates a fleet of road haulage vehicles, including a range of specialist trailers. We are abnormal loads specialists, and can handle all the necessary permits and route planning to transport your cargo to and from the port. From Southampton our trucks operate across the UK and Central and Northern Europe.
