We’re thrilled to announce that Williams Shipping has advanced from the Silver Award to the prestigious Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award for 2024. Having achieved Silver in the past, we are incredibly proud to have now secured the highest level of recognition with the Gold Award.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) is designed to encourage employers to support defence initiatives and inspire others to do the same. This scheme encompasses Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards for organizations that pledge, demonstrate, or advocate support for defence and the Armed Forces community, aligning their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Gold Award is a testament to our continued commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme acknowledges employers who provide exceptional support to this community, and we’re honoured to be recognised among them. At Williams Shipping, we have proudly signed the Armed Forces Covenant, reaffirming our dedication to the Armed Forces community. We proudly display our commitment on our website (www.williams-shipping.co.uk) and showcase our certificates in our offices.
Currently, several reservists are employed with Williams Shipping. We are dedicated to supporting their training by offering an additional 10 days paid training per year, ensuring they have the flexibility they need. Additionally, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting reservists through any mobilisations, providing full support during their service and ensuring a smooth transition back into the workplace upon their return.
We are truly delighted to have been awarded the Gold Award and look forward to continuing our strong support for the Armed Forces community.
RICHARD BROOKS – General Manager / Royal Naval Reserve
“As a Reservist, I’m thankful for the flexibility Williams Shipping provides, allowing me to complete my training with the Royal Naval Reserve. The 10 additional days of paid leave are extremely valuable, as they enable me to preserve my annual leave for family vacations, helping me maintain a healthy work-life balance that accommodates both my job and Reserve service.
Despite working within a small team, Williams Shipping consistently ensures that I’m granted leave for training and exercises, allowing me to uphold my commitment to the Naval Service.”
ANDY HILLS – Technical Superintendent / Army Reserve
“After spending 26 years in the Regular Army on leaving I always wanted to commit to serving in the Reserves but always had concerns on whether I could get a good balance between work, reserves and more importantly family life. Williams Shipping has made this possible by understanding when it comes to taking time off to train. Also, I have a role within the Army that has a high demand for me to attend online or telephone conferences and Williams allows me to attend these without issues. Along with this they always encourage me in my career within the Reserves and always take an interest in what I am doing.”
