We were delighted to be revalidated with our Silver Award for the ERS (Employment Recognition Scheme) this year. The Scheme acknowledges employers who provide exceptional support to the Armed Forces community.

Williams Shipping have signed the Armed Forces Covenant to show our commitment and support to the Armed Forces Community and we proudly promote these on our website (www.williams-shipping.co.uk) and certificates are displayed in our offices.

There are 2 reservists currently working for Williams Shipping and we are committed to supporting their training by offering an additional 10 days unpaid leave per year.

Williams Shipping remain committed to supporting the employment of Reservists, and should mobilisations take place, then we would support the employees through this process and their eventual transition back to the workplace.

Southampton Sea Cadets

The company has assisted the Southampton Sea Cadets with marine facilities support for the repairs to a rescue craft

Williams Shipping have offered the Cadet unit access to their marine facilities for vessel acquaints and training and we anticipate this relationship will develop further.

Support for Veterans, Service Leavers, and the Wounded, Injured and Sick

Williams Shipping maintain close links with 17 Port & Maritime Regiment, and over the past decade have employed 8 personnel across the business in a number of marine and transport roles.

Currently, Williams Shipping employs 6 Veterans and place a high value on the skills and work ethic they bring to the business.

We are looking to further our links with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to employ service leavers and attend careers fairs.

Williams Shipping were first awarded the Silver Level Certificate in 2017, presented to them by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson ESQ HM.

RICHARD BROOKS – General Manager / Royal Naval Reserve

“As a Reservist, I am grateful for the flexibility offered by Williams Shipping in allowing me to undertake my training for the Royal Naval Reserve.

The 10 days additional leave (unpaid) is of particular benefit as it allows me to save my annual leave for family holiday allowing me to maintain a home life balance compatible with both work and Reserve service.

Whilst working within a small team, this flexibility is further demonstrated by ensuring that leave is granted for training / exercise periods ensuring I can maintain my commitment to the Naval Service”.

ANDY HILLS – Technical Superintendent / Army Reserve

“After spending 26 years in the Regular Army on leaving I always wanted to commit to serving in the Reserves but always had concerns on whether I could get a good balance between work, reserves and more importantly family life. Williams Shipping has made this possible by understanding when it comes to taking time off to train. Also I have a role within the Army that has a high demand for me to attend online or telephone conferences and Williams allow me to attend these without issues. Along with this they always encourage me in my career within the Reserves and always take an interest in what I am doing ”.

MD Jonathan and Andy, our Technical Superintendent and Warrant Officer First Class in the Army Reserves, received the revalidation of their silver award at a ceremony on HMS King Alfred.
We are proud to be supporting those who serve.
